In her exploration of different beats and manipulating vocal tracks, Melbourne’s Lisa Spencer aka Aeora releases new single ‘Fenceline’.
For Lisa: “’Fenceline’ was created when I was thinking about a past relationship I had and how during parts of this relationship, I felt weak like I had lost myself. When it ended, I found myself trying to regain strength and fight for my identity. At times I felt like I couldn’t quite get there and rested somewhere in the middle. The story concludes, where I look at where I am now and how I’ve grown, kind of like saying “look at me now””
With tracks known for their raw emotion and commanding vocals, Aeora backed up her first single of 2017 ‘Boss-y’ with showcases at Toronto’s Canadian Music Week and is spending time working on a slew of empowering, yet darkly layered tracks to continue the year.
Aeora has been impressing crowds up and down the east coast of Australia with her live show. Notably supporting the likes of Glades, Confidence Man and Evangeline, including an interstate co-headline tour alongside label-mates RKDA and showcasing at Sydney’s Electronic Music Conference. Aeora will perform a mini-residency at The Gasometer Upstairs July 19 with BATTS and July 26 with Eilish Gilligan.
Kult Kyss [kɵlt] [ɕʏs] is a hybrid art-music electronic project created in Melbourne. The duo Haxx and Rromarin return in 2017 to deliver their dynamic sophomore single Water Baby.
Fusing raw, primal vocals with organic percussion and electronic production, Water Baby takes listeners on a heady and euphoric journey into the waters of the subconscious.
A vibrant and eclectic second offering, Water Baby follows their debut Get Up Boy. Soon after, the pair delivered a rework of The Presets’ This Boy’s In Love, their homage receiving support from The Presets themselves
With an EP on the horizon, Kult Kyss continue to carve a space for themselves in the world of experimental future pop, further cementing their unique sound with this release.
Take Your Time is Angela Schilling (Swimming, Oliver White) and Lee Hannah (The Townhouses, Sessility) from Melbourne. Together they hang out, drink coffee and make their own brand of diva house ready for the kind of club that serves cappuccinos. Having just joined local favourites Yeo and SAATSUMA on an east-coast tour, the duo are excited to present their debut 7″ release featuring singles ‘Sleep In’ and ‘I Feel It Everyday’.
‘Sleep In’ is about loving and believing in your pals. It’s really heartbreaking seeing your friends/loved ones struggle and be mistreated, when you know that they’re full of potential and deserve better – ‘Sleep In’ is like a big warm embrace for your loved ones, letting them know that you’ve got the time to give them what they need.
Mastered by Simon Lam, Take Your Time’s debut 7” will be released October 28 via Neat Lawn.
Neat Lawn is a record label founded in 2016 and based in Melbourne. Established by Gab Strum (Japanese Wallpaper) and Will Evans (Zero Through Nine), with an emphasis on community, independence and identity; we hope that the music we share reflects these ideals.
LA ROCKSTEADY – ‘NOTHING WITHOUT YOU’ FEAT. ALIUS
LA Rocksteady returns with latest single ‘Nothing Without You’. The track features the producer’s distinctive sound of heavily distorted synthesizes and guitars.
Enlisting support from Alius on vocals, ‘Nothing Without You’ is in the LA Rocksteady’s words “an 80’s Action Movie French electro vibe”.
Based in Melbourne, La Rocksteady is an electronic act incorporating rock, pop and disco influence into ‘stadium rock’, coloured by grungy bars, filthy unisex toilets, Tuesday night lock-ins, skinny jeans, Japanese engines and Cold War time machines.
‘Nothing Without You’ follows on from LA Rocksteady’s debut EP 1987 released last year; and is the first taste of the upcoming 5-track EP New York. TV. Ice Cream. Travel. Good Times. due for release in November.

Medium Rare Recordings are delighted to release ‘Trying’ from one of their very own founders Benson.
This is the first from Benson through his boutique label, in what MRR unbiasedly and biasedly believes is his finest work yet.
Off the back of his ARIA Club Chart #1 ‘Step To Me’, Benson teams up with fellow Melbournite Yeo to bring us a bonafide anthem.
Having previously featured on collaborations such as Hermitude’s ARIA Chart #1 ‘Searchlight’ and producing Asta’s EP Shine. This will be the first feature track from Yeo ahead of collaborative album to be released later this year.
‘Trying’ is a melodic and melancholic number with a euphoric vocal that takes you on a roller coaster of emotions throughout its magical journey.
“[Nightmares] explores the band’s undeniable talent for masterfully crafting thoughtful emotive indie rock” – Tone Deaf
“The lyrics of ‘So Numb’ have really gotten underneath my skin” – Sounds of Oz
“Its front-man Louis McDonald’s soulful voice and introspective lyrics that really guide us through” – Happy
Melbourne rock/noise-pop outfit, Plastic releases their first single in over a year, ‘Has Anyone Ever Told You You’re Alive’. A banging, catchy slap in the face that sets the tone for their forthcoming sophomore EP, Air Conditioning.
‘Has Anyone Ever’ explodes out of a wall of static, an off-kilter melody carved from a 4-minute block of white noise. Clearing the static is front man Louis McDonald. With candid lyrics: “it’s all this staying up late… what part of this has you so confused?” sings Louis if not a little sarcastically, “Has anyone ever told you you’re alive?”
Honing the songs on their latest New Zealand tour, the band settled down in late 2016 for summer hibernation. Their first attempts at self-recording in a Collingwood sauna they call their studio proved fruitful.
Having previously sold out a headlining show in Auckland and support slots in Melbourne for the likes of Alex Lahey and Frida, Plastic launch ‘Has Anyone Ever’ at Bar Open on March 31. The release of EP Air Conditioning will follow in April.
Melbourne DIY band The Burning Roaches are a handful of abrasive, grunge goodness and fuzzy feedback drawing from 90’s nostalgia.
Late 2015, the band revealed the first taste of their debut self-titled EP. The single ‘Bad Things’ saw support from community radio nationally.
Having spent the past year writing and recording, the band are ready to drop their raw 4 track EP. Each track teeming with gritty riffs and good time spliffs, making The Burning Roaches a gem for fans of garage and grunge in Melbourne’s underground live music scene.
The Burning Roaches are gearing up to launch the EP with live shows in Sydney and Melbourne this April.
