Ends In Torment

It seems no matter what the Australian Metal Scene is always being rejected, overlooked or plain out ignored by a majority of metal fans. Despite widespread success overseas, quality Australian metal acts such as The Butterfly Effect are overlooked for the latest bands coming out of the U.S. or Europe. This is a phase that local group, Ends In Torment hope to put a stop to.

Ends In Torment is made up of Peter Ripoli (lead singer, rhythm guitar, songwriter), Chris Themelco (death vocals, lead guitar, songwriter), Garry Kilby (bass guitar, songwriter) and Matt Themelco (drummer… whom Chris says is a terminator from the future who has been programmed to play dreams).

Like so many bands these days Ends In Torment started out while they were at high school as a cover band. Interesting enough Peter was originally the drummer but after a shuffle Matt joined the band and Peter took over the vocals duty.

Asked to describe their sound Chris says ‘It’s the lasagna of metal, there are so many layers. If we needed to say our genre it would be a mix of Thrash, Power metal, Heavy metal, Death metal and prog metal… So simply put Melodic Thrash Metal maybe?’ However their sound is probably best explained when they list bands such as Metallica, Trivium and The Butterfly Effect in their influences.

When quizzed about the health of the Australian metal scene Chris says, ‘There’s a metal scene??? In all seriousness it has been getting bigger and stronger as the hardcore fad is dying out slowly. I wish that everyone could see the talent that we witness in various local bands like, Demolition, In Malice’s Wake, A Destined Belonging, Anarchsphere, Grimlock, Internal Nightmare. Really, you just have to know where to look. It would be great if Aussie Metal had more recognition. Bands like Black Majesty have broken through to international fame and one day we hope to follow there lead and stand side by side with other Aussie metal greats.’

The good news is Ends In Torment will be releasing a five-track EP called ‘Sans Peur’ in 2008 which will come with a DVD containing some live and behind the scenes footage. The EP is being released through Indie Label, Strike Force Music.
