Half Moon Run – Dark Eyes

If you’re a fan of bands such as Radiohead or Sigur Ros you may want to check out young Canadian band Half Moon Run who have just released a sensational debut album called Dark Eyes.

The album showcases a band that certainly knows their craft. The smooth vocals of opening track ‘Full Circle’ quickly draws in any listener, while the track itself sounds like a mix between Radiohead’s style of rock with a twist of folk music.

Half Moon Run shows further what they are capable of with the smooth sounding ‘Call Me In The Afternoon’ which is given new life with some manic sounding vocals. The smoothness then continues with ‘No More Losing The War’ which despite being one of the weaker tracks on Dark Eyes is still a good listen.

The alternative sounding ‘She Wants To Know’ sounds amazing but the slow moving ‘Need It’ never seems to move out of first gear despite some nice sounding organs parts. Dark Eyes then picks up a little with yet another smooth track, ‘Give Up’.

The rockier sounding ‘Judgement’ reveals some great guitar work while ‘Drug You’ certainly centres Half Moon Run in the alternative music category. The band falls back into the smooth groove with ‘Nerve’ and then closes the album with two tracks that have Sigur Ros stamped all over them ‘Fire Escape’ and ’21 Gun Salute’.

This is one hell of a debut album and its kinda scary to think that Half Moon Run are guaranteed to get better as time moves on and they mature as a band.
