This week I had the pleasure of talking with Khattak, a 30 year old guy, a well kept secret, Pakistan, always in demand from his friends for his skilled use of the Rabab.
Which instruments do you play?
What was the first tune you learned?
Game of Thrones (Theme song)
Is your family musical?
No, they are very religious.
Tell me about your trainer?
Very few people can play the Rabab in Islamabad and they are hard to find, but i found my teacher who was playing Rabab in public place on special event. I persisted until he took me on as his pupil.
What are your memories with rabab?
Well, very few people know that i can play this instrument and those are very close to me. I played it once for my dearest friend when he came my house, i play Rabab when i have nobody to talk with. Rabab is my friend i do play when i feel bored or lonely. It’s a very stress free instrument for me!
Were you influenced by old records?
Oh yeah, there are so many on Youtube I listen those recording and try to play those tunes as well.
Have you been in competitions?
I’ve never been in any competition.
Do you get nervous before a performance?
Yup, i get nervous and it is very hard for me to play in front of unknown people.
Did you teach anybody this instrument?
No, but i will teach my one friend because he is requesting since he listened this instrument.
