The last thing you expect when you go to see Tucker & Dale vs Evil is that you’re about to witness one of the funniest films of the year… but mark my words this is one film that is guaranteed to have you laughing out loud throughout. That’s largely due to the fact that Tucker & Dale vs Evil is one of the very few films that has managed to mix horror and comedy together in such a way that the film actually works.
Tucker (Alan Tudyk – Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, TV’S Batman: The Brave & The Bold) and Dale (Tyler Labine – Sisters & Brothers, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes) are just two guys who have saved enough money to be able to afford their own holiday home, but their first weekend at their new pride-and-joy is ruined by the arrival of the group of college kids. Then when Tucker and Dale help the accident-prone, Allison (Katrina Bowden – TV’S 30 Rock & Nick Swardson’s Pretend Time) they are suddenly labeled red-neck serial killers. As a war starts and the bodies count grows higher is it possible that the college kids are right about these two?
While movies like Scary Movie (the first two not the latter ones) have shown that mixing comedy and horror together is possible very few writers seem to have the skills to pull it off. Therefore the writers behind Tucker & Dale vs Evil need to be congratulated, because this is an absolute laugh-fest. Let’s be blunt Eli Craig (The Tao Of Pong, TV’S Brothers & Sisters) (and his co-writer, Morgan Jurgenson (Glass Desert) is one of the most talented comedy director/writers going around… this is his break-out film and Hollywood should be begging him to helm (and pen) a lot more comedys. Tucker & Dale vs Evil crosses the genres brilliantly, there is some shlock horror that will keep the horror fans happy and enough comedy to keep you laughing from start to finish. Even better is the fact that Craig and Jurgenson have also remembered to keep some tension in there so the audience is constantly worried about whether their favourite character will make it through to the end.
The other reason that Tucker & Dale vs Evil works so well is because Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine nail their roles. As far as comedy goes these guys are geniuses. Their performances are among so of the best comedy performances that you will ever see and the two of them put so-called comedy actors like Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey to absolute shame. They are also well backed up by a young cast who show Hollywood that they are ready to take the next step… there are certainly no passengers in this cast.
If you like a good comedy then you have to go and see Tucker & Dale vs Evil, this is one of the funniest films ever made and certainly shows that is possible to mix the horror and comedy genres together and end up with an absolute masterpiece.
