A Chat With Driver:
We recently caught up with Brisbane Indie Electro duo Driver to chat about their new single and lots more!
Welcome Driver! Tell us a little bit about yourselves?
We are long term friends and band mates who re-connected early this year, both with a few life challenges and a mutual drive to begin a new creative project.
How long have you been writing music together?
We met through band auditions in early 2000’s, performed in two bands together and toured all over Australia with both international support and headlining shows between 2005 and 2008.
What inspires to you create music?
There has always been a strong mutual drive within us to create songs that reach and connect with people, our inspiration at the moment Is the resurgence of 80’s and 90’s era film and music, we feel that love for the era coming through in our songs.
Your new single ’Sin City’ is out now. Congrats! Tell us a bit about the songwriting process?
This single and upcoming EP came together in a very natural way, we decided to take rhythm and build on that, writing in a very relaxed and organic environment far away from our previous rock band experience. All of the songs are built around a drum and bass rhythm that made us feel something, from there the songs evolved naturally.
How was the recording process?
The recording process with Troy Brady was exactly how we had hoped, very professional, relaxed and organic. Troy’s experience in capturing great performance really shows in Damion’s voice and the overall production.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
At the moment groups like The Midnight are really speaking to us, we are also influenced by the likes of Khalid, the Weeknd, RÜFÜS. Then there is legends Depeche Mode, Talking Heads.
What do you like to do away from music?
We are both family guys, getting out and about exploring the QLD coastline and islands, we are both into health and fitness, Damion is a qualified PT and primary school Teacher, I have 18 years experience in the Aviation industry.
Any advice for up and coming musicians out there?
The industry has changed so much over the past 10-15 years, I guess our advice would be with all the technology available now, not to underestimate the value of getting out and meeting other artists and creatives, supporting others and networking.
What’s next for Driver?
The EP ‘Crosstalker’ will be released in Jan with a Launch show at the legendary venue The Zoo in Fortitude Valley Brisbane Jan 25th.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Stay in touch on our socials, we have Lots more coming up over the next few months. And we don’t know if you knew, but snails have up to 12.000 teeth, that’s pretty terrifying 👊🏻
