Jay-Gee interview :
We recently caught up with Sydney Hip Hop producer Jay-Gee to chat about his recent single What’s Goin’ On and a bunch of other cool happenings!
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m a Producer and Songwriter based out of Sydney, Australia. I’ve worked with artists such as Layzie Bone, Bizzy Bone, Cassidy, Young Noble, Mareko and Monsta Ganjah.
What inspired you to start a career in music production?
I started playing piano when I was 5, and began composing my first pieces of music soon after. I started rapping as a teenager and as good beats were hard to come by at the time I started producing for myself. I joined a rap group called On Point, which I worked on some production for. I ended up enjoying production more than rapping so I continued on with that. Now I focus all my energy on mastering my craft.
Can you remember the first artist that you produced?
The first artist I produced for was myself, but the first artist I developed and produced was a female rapper named Jackel.
What can you not live without on tour?
Good company. Having a good team around is what really makes a tour fun and not feel like work.
Favourite food to keep you fueled in those long recording sessions?
I always try to eat before a session so I can work right through.
Who are your biggest creative influences?
Prince and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
What is the best piece of advice you have received as a producer?
Take coffee breaks during sessions. Re-listening to a track with fresh ears does wonders.
What song of yours would you recommend new listeners check out first?
My new single “What’s Goin’ On?” featuring Monsta Ganjah, Layzie Bone & Mareko, It’s available everywhere. You can also find more of my production on my website www.jay-gee.com
Any upcoming tour dates?
Nothing planned at the moment, I’m mainly focusing on studio work and preparing my next releases. Stay tuned!
