Vengaboys Return :
Buzz Magazine had a chance to catch up with Robin from the Vengaboys. Despite not having his couple of cups of coffee and it still being ridiculously early in Rotterdam, in Holland, Robin had been fired up by a series of early morning interviews. The Vengaboys were touring Australia October 2016. It ws time for some publicity from this 90’s pop outfit who had mega hits with tunes such as “Boom, Boom, Boom,’
How do you cope with the long flight to Australia?
“I don’t cope. I love it over there, but the flight to Australia? “Oh My God!” If I don’t sleep, nobody sleeps, there’s always some passengers to annoy.”
You have said in a previous interview that you have a “few nice things for the show.” Any hints?
“We’ve some few nice things. We love to go “Down-under “We’re going to slow it down a bit.”
Longevity is certainly a term that applies to the Vengaboys. You joined the band in 1997. If I was going to ask you what you first memory that comes to mind in 1997, what would the answer be?
“Well, it has been a long time. Meeting Madonna!”
Well that would be before any face lifts?
“But the boobies are real… So that’s Good!”
I was puzzled, how did Robin know? He is not a doctor?
“I touched them.”
This was intriguing, I had to pursue.
“I did, but it really didn’t count that much because she was drunk.”
That was the highlight for that year?
“Yes, that’s the highlight! You don’t do that every day!”
You have the agree with that statement.
The Vengaboys are known for having incredible outfits over the years, do you have a favorite?
“I have a see-thru sailor outfit. It’s actually not my favorite, but the world loves it because you can see everything. That’s why i keep it at home.”
So the rest of the world loves it and you have to put up with it for art’s sake?
“Yes, I will keep it in the bedroom because it’s better. I have worn it a few times, especially for parties, but I have to wear a brief swimsuit on underneath, otherwise it would be too much.”
So what are you bringing to Australia.
“Well I will let you know that I have a crazy new outfit made for Australia. It’s going to be a bit of surprise.”
You have twelve concerts in two and a half weeks. Do you get time off?
“Yes, we have a few days. We love to go out and see beautiful things.”
I suppose you are sick of people taking you out to see Aussie animals?
“Oh no, I love it, I never get tired of seeing the animals. I have eaten kangaroo as well, that’s really strange!”
“It tastes like chicken?”
It’s very mild taste I agreed.
Do you have a comfort food when you are on tour?
“I always like fish. Fish is good for me. Shellfish. Shellfish and shrimp is good.
Lobster?
The Vengaboys are going to Tasmania for the first time on this tour.
I pointed out that the best Lobster is in Tasmania.
“I am coming right away!”
I then pointed out that he should get out the red pen and re-write the ryder.
“We only want the freshest lobster in our dressing rooms!”
I suggested that should be applied straight away. Right now.
Robin suggested he was writing as we spoke.
Have you ever met a Venga boys cover band?
“Yes we have. We actually have seen a Heavy metal band covering “Boom Boom” and an X factor act with two boys performing “Boom Boom”
